The 3rd annual Great Grey-Bruce Grown-up Spelling Bee for Adult Teams is back!
This is your chance to earn bragging rights and raise funds for the South Grey Bruce Youth Literacy Council and its programs to help kids struggling with reading, writing and math skills. You don’t have to be a stellar speller – it’s a team effort, and all teams need quarterbacks, too!
In years past up to 14 teams duked it out – Last year, Hanover’s Library Word-Nerds took best costume and the top prize, too! Apis spellifera got best name. The prize for Most Room for Improvement went to the Condo Girls. Bee-witched earned a prize for Most Pledges. The Library Word-Nerds ultimately took top spelling honours – who will take top prize this year?
This is a wonderful evening out for those in service and social clubs; we’ve had almost one-third of our contestants from organizations like yours.
Scroll down for a team entry form, the rules, sponsorship form, and a poster for distribution. Here are 8 ways to help:
- Gather/be on a team
- Sponsor a team
- Hang a poster
- Talk up the BEE
- Contribute a prize (well, 4 prizes – one for each member of the team)
- Come and join in the fun, whether you’re a participant, sponsor, donor or spectator!
- Be ready to vote (costume, name), Audience Choice (spirit), and to buy Rebuzzes, Buzz-offs and Stingers on behalf of your favourite team to help keep them in the contest.
- Stick around to the very end and cheer on the finalists!
This year we are at Frankie’s Restaurant & Pub at 365 10th Street in Hanover, on Thursday, February 25, 2016. The BEE begins at 6:30 – if you want dinner, please plan on arriving earlier.
Remember – the team entry fee is $25 per team members, but there will also be chances to support youth literacy through buying your way back in, throwing out a word and passing a real stinker onto another team. Also, you and your supporters can vote as often as you want to for best name and best costume!
Looking forward to seeing you at the BEE!
